In founding Hann & Co, George’s goal was to create a quality legal service for his clients with a personal touch. Hann & Co is now a family firm, as George has been joined by his two sons Joseph and Benjamin. George studied law at the University of Aberdeen and Glasgow University, and after completing his training was enrolled as a Solicitor in 1987. George undertakes a varied caseload, in areas of practice including Conveyancing, Commercial Law, Company Law, Personal Injury claims, Tax Planning and all aspects of Private Client. George is also a Notary Public. George recently stepped down from his leadership role at Hann & Co but has remained at the firm as a Consultant to focus on the needs of a small number of existing clients.
LL.B, Dip.LP, NP
Joseph graduated from the University of Dundee with a Bachelor of Laws in 1999, and received his Diploma in Professional Legal Practice in 2000. Joseph was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in December 2001. He lectured at Dundee College of Further Education in Law and Public Administration before becoming a local authority lawyer and providing legal advice on housing law and mental health legislation. As a result of his tenure in local government and the private sector, Joseph has extensive litigation experience. Joseph has also tutored post graduates law students at the University of Dundee on aspects of housing law and antisocial behaviour orders, and was an instructor in the training of Mental Health Officers in Tayside on the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000, on the application of Guardianship and Intervention Orders. In 2005 Joseph relocated to Annan to join the family business.
B.A. (Hons), LL.B, Dip.LP, LL.M, NP
Ben’s first degree was a BA (Hons) in Scots law. While at University he created and ran a number of businesses which he continued to manage for 10 years. Ben returned to further education in 2004, graduating with an LL.B from the University of Edinburgh, where he went on to receive his Diploma in Professional Legal Practice in 2007. Ben completed a Commercial Traineeship at Brodies LLP in Edinburgh, before leaving to pursue an LL.M in Oil & Gas Contract Law at Aberdeen Business School, achieving a Merit with his award. He joined Hann & Co part-time in summer 2011. Ben focuses on all aspects of Commercial Law, Employment and property matters. In addition to working for Hann & Co, Ben provides services globally to the petrochemical and energy industries, principally focusing on South American markets.

Charles has a practice heavily focused on litigation and dispute resolution although he acts in a small number of non-contentious matters. He is the first point of contact for our Edinburgh clients who are engaged in court proceedings or other disputes. Charles started working for Hann & Co in 2012 and previously ran his own investigation and enforcement firm. Charles has significant experience in advising clients on anxious, difficult and complex matters. As an example of his varied caseload, he has acted in a variety of complex commercial disputes, numerous personal injury claims (including those involving catastrophic injuries), eviction actions, family disputes including a divorce with an international element, employment claims, and criminal matters. He has been involved in several reported and appellate cases. He has dealt with cases involving complicated medical evidence and those arising from clinical negligence. Charles regularly acts for clients with cases in the Court of Session in Edinburgh (Scotland’s highest civil court). The small non-contentious portion of Charles’ caseload focuses on executry and commercial matters. Charles graduated from the University of Dundee with a First Class Honours degree in both English and Scots law then undertook his postgraduate Diploma there. During his degree, he received several awards for academics and advocacy. He was a joint recipient of the Harold How Memorial Award for performance which was “deemed by the Dean to have been the most meritorious” in his year and the sole recipient of the Routledge Cavendish Award.
Annette McEwen FSSP
Annette is a Registered Paralegal with the Law Society of Scotland, and deals exclusively in Residential Conveyancing. She obtained a Certificate of Performance in Conveyancing Practice from the University of Strathclyde in 2004. During her time at Hann & Co, Annette has been responsible for the efficient management of numerous residential conveyancing transactions for property developers and individuals buying or selling their homes. She deals with all aspects of title work, including the drafting and negotiation of all relevant conveyancing documentation, as well as drafting dispositions, securities, discharges and search requests.
Gemma joined our office in June 2014 as a Front of House Legal Secretary. Gemma’s role involves providing support to our solicitors, and general administrative duties. Gemma also assists our clients with their applications for Advice & Assistance and Civil and Criminal Legal Aid. Recently, Gemma has expanded her workload to include executry administration, and having developed a keen interest in this area she is currently working towards qualification as a private client paralegal.
Aga came to Hann & Co in 2015 and is a native Polish speaker. She currently works in our conveyancing department, providing a full range of administrative support to that department and its clients. She is also the first point of contact for many of our Polish clients.
Louise joined our office in May 2016 as a Front of House Legal Secretary. Louise’s role involves providing administrative support to our fee earners whilst ensuring that the front office operates efficiently. In her spare time, Louise can often be found out with her horse.
